If your injury or illness causes problems with your mobility and motor function, your physiotherapist may use Kinesiology Tape. It includes placing special traka on your body in a specific direction to help improve your mobility and support your joints, muscles and tendons.

There are different theories about the working principle of ergonomic tape. First, it is thought to alter the proprioceptive input of the sensory nervous system in muscles, joints and skin. The tape is believed to improve the interaction between the skin and the underlying structure to help reset this part of the neural circuit system, thereby improving muscle activation and performance.

Kinesiology Tape is also thought to inhibit nociceptors (pain pathways) in muscle, skin and joint structures. Reducing pain input to the brain is thought to normalize muscle tone, thereby reducing pain and muscle spasms.
